Built on family values.
Driven by precision.
BMG Surveys has been the trusted roof survey and structural engineering partner for the UK solar industry since 2011. We do things differently and our clients notice.
Who we are
BMG Surveys Ltd started with a straightforward observation: the solar industry was growing fast, but the engineering support behind it wasn’t keeping up. Surveys were conservative, slow, and rarely optimised for the installer or their client.
We set out to change that. Built on family values and a genuine passion for the renewables sector, we’ve spent over a decade developing a more pragmatic, outcomes-focused approach to roof loading assessments and structural surveys, one that works harder for installers and helps them deliver better results for their clients.
Today, we’re one of the largest providers of structural roof loading reports to the UK solar industry, trusted by more than half of all registered UK and Ireland installers.
Why BMG SurveysWhat we stand for
Family & teamwork
We’re a family-run business and that shapes how we work with each other and with our clients. Supportive, communicative, and always willing to go the extra mile.
Trust & integrity
We say what we mean and we do what we say. Our assessments are honest, our advice is straight, and our reports are ones we’d stake our reputation on.
Safety
Every report we produce is built on a foundation of structural safety. Maximising system size never means compromising on the safety and integrity of the building.
Customer dedication
We’re with you at every stage of the project, not just when we issue the report. If you need clarification, an amendment or a quick call to talk something through, we’re here.
Founders story
I started BMG Surveys Ltd following a conversation with a friend who was looking to start working in the solar installation sector. He asked me to review the MCS guidance and help him through the accreditation process, and it quickly became clear there was a real gap in the market for a consulting engineer who genuinely understands solar and focuses on making projects work.
Too often, structural input was overly cautious, I see how many structural engineers take an overly cautious approach often failing roofs rather than working through the problem. That didn’t sit right with me. I’ve always believed good engineering is about understanding the structure properly, applying sound judgement, and finding a way to make things work safely and efficiently.
That mindset is what BMG Surveys Ltd is built on. I take a very practical, solutions-led approach whether that’s validating an existing roof or developing straightforward, cost-effective options to keep a project moving. I enjoy working through the problem, collaborating with installers, and ultimately helping deliver successful outcomes. Clients know they’ll get clear, honest advice without unnecessary barriers and a genuine commitment to helping their project succeed. That balance has helped build a strong reputation within the industry, and it’s something I take a great deal of pride in.
