SER certification

Full SER certification for solar PV and renewable energy installations requiring local authority framework compliance.

What is SER certification?

SER (Structural Engineer’s Report) certification is required for certain solar PV installations typically where a Local Authority framework or planning condition requires formal structural sign-off by a registered engineer.

It goes beyond a standard structural roof loading report, incorporating full structural calculations, fixing proposals, design drawings and the certified engineer’s signature. For projects where it’s required, there is no workaround and getting it right first time matters.

What is SER certification?

A Structural Engineer’s Report, issued by an approved chartered engineer, confirming that a building’s design meets Scottish building regulations for a proposed solar PV installation.

Is SER certification only available for properties in Scotland?

Yes. SER certification specifically relates to Scottish building regulations. For an equivalent level of assurance on properties in England, we provide a Third Party Chartered Engineer Check Certificate.

Who signs off the certificate?

A chartered structural engineer, following a site visit and full structural assessment.

How does this differ from a standard roof loading report?

A standard report confirms structural suitability. SER certification goes further, providing a signed, chartered engineer’s certificate specifically for Local Authority or funder sign-off requirements.
